Many talented employees find themselves supervising others, yet few receive sufficient training in the skills needed to succeed in the role. In this workshop, participants will explore their manager role and acquire practical tools and resources to transform from an individual contributor to a highly regarded leader. Participants examine how the role of manager is fundamentally different from that of an individual contributor; and how they can plan, manage, and develop the performance and potential of their employees to achieve team and organizational goals. As part of this workshop, participants create their own personal Manager Roadmap and action plan based on real life examples, discussion, and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Overcome Transition Hurdles - Participants clarify what the role of a manager of people entails, the unique challenges that come with making the transition, and the most important aspects of their role in leading others
  • Align Goals - Participants explore the importance of aligning employee performance goals with business objectives and how to take a balanced approach to goal setting. Participants practice drafting clear strategically aligned team goals
  • Motivate, Delegate, and Recognize Achievements - Participants discuss how to create a motivating work environment, and simple recognition techniques that mobilize performance and productivity. Participants walk through why and what to delegate, and develop a delegation scenario
  • Give Feedback and Appraise Performance - Participants learn the ABCs of feedback and practice writing these to provide positive and constructive feedback. Participants connect the day’s learning to performance appraisals

This workshop is designed for participants who are responsible for overseeing the work of others or have the potential to take on a management / supervisory role within the next 1-2 years.
