Understand the drivers of disruption in order to better anticipate it, stimulate innovation, and deploy techniques to lead through it.

Researchers and public and private sector leaders have established that disruption of business models will become even more common and accelerate through the rest of this century. Disruptive events (e.g., the accelerating impact of AI) bring profound changes and can destroy existing business models. However, the understanding of the forces at work and their managerial implications are not yet well understood by most executives.

This comprehensive CPA Ontario certificate program will help leaders to develop the competencies needed to facilitate adaptation and transformation in an increasingly disruptive business environment. Expect to gain practical insights into leadership techniques and skills to help you manage disruption as either the disrupted or the disruptor.

It is likely that executives and almost all organizations will be faced with a major disruptive event or be involved as a disruptor, perhaps multiple times over the course of their careers. This course seeks to advance such awareness and develop practical frameworks and competencies that will aid executives helping their organizations navigate their way in a disruptive environment.

Disruption brings forth enormous managerial challenges for established businesses. Some examples include:

  • Unpredictable and dramatic losses of revenue as buyers shift their habits
  • Traumatic problems of business model transformation
  • Cultural problems of reviving creativity in mature businesses
  • Rethinking existing assets that allow current resources to be reframed to create new businesses
  • New opportunities through acquisition or internal offering development including new technology models such as platforms
  • Learning how to bring new innovations to market successfully in different contexts (B2B or B2C)
  • Making internally funded asymmetric bets that will ensure success at the cost of the old business
