EVENT DESCRIPTION

Learn key concepts in AI from the CEO of a leading Canadian AI company.

This blended learning course introduces AI and big data through theory, real-world case studies, and hands-on work with R, a programming language for data modelling and statistics. There are two components:

1. Understanding Artificial Intelligence (online learning, 1.5 hours). This is a self-paced online course on how AI works on a high level and the steps organizations need to take to get useful results from AI.

2. Practical Applications in Artificial Intelligence (in-person workshop, 7.5 hours). This is a full-day, hands-on session on March 26, 2020, that builds on the concepts in the online course.

Key Takeaways:

By going through this course, you will gain:

  • insight into AI applications in the market today—what works, what doesn’t
  • practical knowledge of key concepts such as natural language processing and machine learning
  • the ability to ask critical questions about the training data in any given AI application
  • the confidence to guide AI initiatives in your organization and avoid common pitfalls
  • an awareness of regulations, data bias and privacy issues with AI
  • an understanding of how statistics underlie AI
  • basic skills in R and RStudio such as:
    • creating data sets
    • working with packages
    • data manipulation and visualization
    • implementing programs
    • programming simple algorithms

Who Will Benefit:

The course is ideal for CPAs who:

  • want enough knowledge to be able to manage, design and cost an AI project
  • want to integrate data science into their careers

No prior programming or AI experience is required.

Please Note:

To participate in the workshop, you must:

  • complete the online course prior to the workshop
  • bring your own laptop to the workshop
  • install R and RStudio on your laptop prior to the workshop (instructions are provided in the online course)

R is free and open source, but to use it you must have a laptop where you can download and install software.

If you are using a company-issued laptop that forbids software installation, you will need to find an alternative. You must be able to install software both before and during the workshop.
