Learn how to contribute to the effective use of predictive analytics in your organization.

The University of Waterloo and CPA Ontario have collaborated to deliver a professional development certificate program tailored for CPAs who want to advance their careers with analytics-driven decision-making.

This program allows CPAs to work comfortably and confidently with predictive analytics. The program’s modules combine a broad understanding of industry-standard data analytics process with a focus on forecasting models, a type of predictive analytics particularly relevant for accounting and finance applications.

This course is delivered virtually over six sessions from April 27 to June 1.

  • Access to course starts/Program Kick-off Event (OPTIONAL) - Wed April 27th from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m

  • Module 1: From Business Problem to Analytics Project with Simple Linear Regression - Wed May 4th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Module 2: Predictive Analytics with Multiple Linear Regression - Wed May 11th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Module 3: Leveraging Domain Knowledge to Improve Models - Wed May 18th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Modules are self-paced to be completed in advance of the weekly live sessions.

Please visit our website for more information on this new Digital Certificate in Predictive Analytics.

  • Identify applications and limitations of predictive analytics.
  • Organize activities and resources required to complete a data analytics project using the industry standard process for data mining (CRISP-DM).
  • Translate a business problem/question into a predictive analytics project description.
  • Compare the insights from and reliability of different forecasting models developed to answer the business question.
  • Evaluate the predictive accuracy of forecasting models

Students who enroll should be familiar with basic statistics concepts. Students will be asked to develop forecasts in Excel for a group project so comfort with Excel formulae and functions will be a plus.

This course is delivered virtually over six sessions, including an orientation event and group project presentation. Includes 20 hours of learning.

Participants will be expected to start the self-paced module on their own and come prepared to the first instructor-led session. Expect live and interactive instructor-led sessions, group project work, presentation opportunities, debrief sessions and self-paced learning activities. Participants do not need to write code or use specific software applications because course instructors will demonstrate the analysis techniques and provide results for participants to interpret.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn a verified digital certificate from the University of Waterloo that will be emailed to you in the name you used when registering for the program. Your digital certificate can be shared with your professional and personal networks.

This certificate is designed for those who lead (or aspire to lead) individuals or teams that benefit or could benefit from the application of the predictive analytics. After completing this certificate, you will be able to have a deeper understanding of predictive analytics and will be able to plan and oversee the use of predictive analytics in your organization.
