CPA Ontario's Practice Management & Tax Conference is back in person and will be hosted at The International Centre in Mississauga. This two-day learning opportunity is for current and aspiring professional practitioners, who are interested in updating their knowledge base on issues and legislation currently facing the accounting profession. Topic: Value Billing: What does that really mean?

Description: Billing what you’re worth, and then collecting what you’ve billed is probably one of the areas of practice most practitioners struggle with the most.

Value billing has a few very interesting challenges.

  • How do you determine what your service is worth?
  • How do you ensure clients see your value as well as you do?
  • How do you ensure the client pays for such services quickly and willingly?
  • How do you deal with clients complaining about fees and threatening to go elsewhere? Or is simply letting them go really the best solution?

These are all questions practitioners must have clear answers to get the most out of value billing.

In this interactive session, attendees will have the opportunity to look at value provided from your client’s perspective. It will focus on asking the right questions, and touch on a few negotiation techniques that will greatly increase the odds of achieving much great profit and satisfaction with every sale.

Topic: Current State of Surplus Stripping

Description: With federal budget deficits in the billions of dollars because of the unprecedented various Covid-19 economic stimulus spending initiatives, significant increases in tax rates is now not an “if” but a “when”?

Surplus stripping techniques are methods where corporate surplus is removed tax efficiently from a corporation at (currently) lower taxed capital gains rates as opposed to (currently) higher taxed personal dividend rates. This opportunity will likely disappear in the very near future. Practical examples of surplus stripping shall be discussed in this course.
