Topic: Value Billing: What does that really mean?

Description: Billing what you’re worth, and then collecting what you’ve billed is probably one of the areas of practice most practitioners struggle with the most.

Value billing has a few very interesting challenges.

  • How do you determine what your service is worth?
  • How do you ensure clients see your value as well as you do?
  • How do you ensure the client pays for such services quickly and willingly?
  • How do you deal with clients complaining about fees and threatening to go elsewhere? Or is simply letting them go really the best solution?

These are all questions practitioners must have clear answers to get the most out of value billing.

In this interactive session, attendees will have the opportunity to look at value provided from your client’s perspective. It will focus on asking the right questions, and touch on a few negotiation techniques that will greatly increase the odds of achieving much great profit and satisfaction with every sale.

Topic: Current State of Surplus Stripping

Description: With federal budget deficits in the billions of dollars because of the unprecedented various Covid-19 economic stimulus spending initiatives, significant increases in tax rates is now not an “if” but a “when”?

Surplus stripping techniques are methods where corporate surplus is removed tax efficiently from a corporation at (currently) lower taxed capital gains rates as opposed to (currently) higher taxed personal dividend rates. This opportunity will likely disappear in the very near future. Practical examples of surplus stripping shall be discussed in this course.

NOTE: This session will be recorded.

Speaker: Darryl Boyd, Regional Market Leader at Poe Group Advisors

Topic: Selling in the Cloud: Valuation and Transition of Cloud Accounting Firms

Description: Cloud accounting firms tend to sell at a premium due to demand. They sell much more quickly than traditional firms — up to 50% faster. Why is this? The main two reasons are the quantity of buyers due to geography and types of buyers.

In this breakout session, Darryl will speak about:

  • What is a cloud accounting firm?
  • How is a cloud firm sale different from a traditional firm?
  • Premium Pricing for Cloud Firms - What can you expect from the market?

Topic: 10x-ing Business Valuation Through Teamwork

Description: There are hundreds of thousands of successful owner-managed businesses in Canada. Unfortunately, most do not have the management or systems to facilitate value transferability. As a result, a large industry of deal professionals waits for owners to sign over their businesses for whatever they can get.

One solution is for the owner-manger to adopt a growth mindset and then engage and inspire employees to take responsibility, make decisions, and redesign the business. Accountants can deliver significant value. With the right team, 10x-ing value in 10 years allows the owner to retain the business as an investment, sell it externally, or transfer it internally.

In this closing keynote, John will speak about:

  • The Macroeconomic Owner-Manager Problem
  • Why Owner-Managed Businesses are the Best Investments Harvard MBAs can Find
  • How to Transition from Silos to Teamwork
  • The Accountant: a Key Position on a 10x-ing Team
