Why Creating Psychological Safety & Trust Is Critical to Creating a Sense of Belonging for All
Speaker: Sadaf Parvaiz, CPA, CA
Global Enterprise Inclusion & Diversity Leader at GHD and former Inclusiveness Director at EY

Description: You don’t have to be in HR or a Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) leader to create a more inclusive work environment. While systemic and organization wide initiatives are important, we all have the ability to impact the work experience for ourselves and those around us. Belonging is a subjective experience when we feel valued, understood and seen for all of our unique identities and skills. There are tremendous benefits for organizations, individuals and teams when people feel they belong. But belonging doesn’t just happen. It needs to be fostered through every experiences where people feel psychological safety and trust. In this session we will explore the importance, meaning and connection between psychological safety, trust, inclusive leadership and belonging. We will discuss how seemingly small everyday interactions can either build or diminish our feeling of belonging.

After decades of leading workplace DEI strategy and initiatives, Sadaf will provide real life examples of how to take DEI theory and put them into action in our daily behaviours. She will share the pitfalls and opportunities and lessons learned along the way when working towards creating more diverse and inclusive workplaces.

Embracing Selfishness. It's Not What You Think!
Speaker: Dr. Natasha Williams
Women’s Radical Self Care and Leadership Expert

Description: The word selfishness has received a bad rap. Especially for women where in many ways’ society has asked them to define their superior womanhood by self sacrifice and ultimately placing themselves on the back burner. Many times, society’s message is that to be that “superwoman” you have to sacrifice yourself for your partner, for your children, for your family. But where do you fit in the equation? If you leave yourself last, then you risk your own health and well being. Dr. Natasha is going to get you to look at selfishness differently. Change your perspective. Look at selfishness as necessary self care.

Demolishing Brick Walls before Breaking Glass Ceilings
Speaker: Rosie Yeung, CPA, CA, CHRL
Speaker, Coach, Strategist and Podcaster for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI)

Description:

You’ve probably heard of the “glass ceiling”, which one U.S. government report describes as "the unseen, yet unbreachable barrier that keeps minorities and women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, regardless of their qualifications or achievements”.

If people don’t see this barrier, it’s not that they’re blind; it’s that they’re only seeing through their privileged lens. For the people who fall against this barrier, it’s very visible. And it looks more like multiple brick walls, than a glass ceiling.

In this talk, Rosie Yeung, JEDI Coach, CPA, CA and Certified HR Leader, Changes our Lens to see the diversity of barriers facing women in business. She speaks to us from her lessons learned, lived experience, and the truths we know but are forbidden to mention in corporate workplaces.

Join us and explore why we need to grow our self-acceptance, not our self-confidence, and what actions we can take to demolish brick walls for ourselves and each other.
