The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainability reporting landscape is rapidly evolving and CPAs need to keep pace with standards and regulations. The new International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) is developing global sustainability reporting standards to enable consistent disclosure by organizations to their investors. The Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) – set to be operational by April 2023 – will work with the ISSB to implement the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Standards in Canada.
In addition, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) and the United States Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) have both issued new proposed mandatory climate change disclosure requirements. Both rules were developed in alignment with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD). These rules are expected to be finalized in 2023 and come into effect in 2024.
This course will address how CPAs can help organizations navigate the complex landscape of sustainability reporting. It will help CPAs in audit prepare for assurance over sustainability reports. Participants will learn about the current and proposed reporting and disclosure requirements and their implications for Canadian organizations, including small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and both publicly traded and privately held companies. This course will highlight opportunities where CPAs can leverage their skills and competencies to help meet evolving disclosure requirements.
